I got to see several Indigo Hamlets while scuba diving in Belize. I wish I had gotten a picture of one. They always seem so peaceful and serene.
Well, they are ambush predators in the sea bass family so they would be pretty good at calmly waiting wouldn’t they?
This watercolor painting was one of my first attempts at physiologically accurate painting fish. It’s a great way to practice my painting and my fish identification skills.
The fins were especially difficult to paint as they are slightly transparent and the colors are very subtle. I plan to paint this again with slightly more contrast between the background and foreground.
